Methodology

[margin10]
The project consisted of four principal activities:

  1. Assess and catalogue the extent of Britten’s annotations found within his Mozart scores.
  2. Comparative and contextual analysis of these sources.
  3. The acquisition of digital images of the most heavily annotated scores (as part of phase 1).
  4. Develop the technical means to display these images for further comparative analyses by other users (performers/composers/academics etc.).

These activities were conducted by Simon Brown at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and in close collaboration with The Britten-Pears Foundation.
